What, you don't know what Webkinz are? You probably don't have elementary or middle school kids in your house. Webkinz are referred to little cute toys (also referred to as virtual toys) created by Ganz company.  Each webkinz has it's own secret code which can be used to make the Webkinz come alive on the computer screen.

 

Yes, your child can use the Webkinz secret code as the key to the Webkinz World web site (www.webkinz.com).  Your child or you will need to create an account first and then your webkinz.

 

Your child can be involved in many different webkinz activities through this site. You child will name its webkinz and will buy it its own room. Your child earns kinzcash while playing games at the Webkinz World. With kinzcash your child can virtually purchase many things for the webkinz. Things like a pool, wallpaper, carpet, bed, backyard or even a toilet can be purchased with the kinz cash. This promotes responsibility in your kids and forces them to make choices about how to spend their budget.

 

Another positive experience for kids is being more responsible. Kids need to feed their webkinz, bath them, walk them. Webkinz "go to doctor" for checkups

 

Webkinz can communicate with other webkinz. The web site controls what phrases are passed between webkinz, so no vulgarities and no bad language flows through the Webkinz World.

 

If you are worried about your kids spending too much time on the computer, simply limit their computer use.  My kids are only allowed to play on the computer for 1 hour a day at summer and only 30 minutes a day during the school year. You don't have to stick to this schedule, just be reasonable. On a rainy day, maybe let them play two 1 hour periods.  Just remember, it's your call, and not your child's.
